You may not have heard of the Ukrainian brand Ksenia Schnaider, but I think you will soon see their many denim inventions start to peek into the USA. In 2016 the brand had “demi-denims.” Then came “denim fur.” This year, the brand is bringing one of their boldest denim statements yet: asymmetrical jeans.
The Kiev-based designer Ksenia Schnaider has a self proclaimed obsession with denim. She’s previously told the fashion site "i-D" that this is "rooted in the Soviet Union’s jean revolution, as jeans had a cult-like status that made them a luxury to wear when she was growing up. She remembers her mother borrowing her father’s only pair of jeans when she was a child."
Anton Schnaider, her husband and business partner, enjoys making things for “no reason" (typical male response lol). The duo first featured the jeans on their instagram account a year ago, and the have been trending ever since. Ksenia doesn't mind that some of the sharing on social media is because people are "disturbed" by them, because a lot of their ideas are "outside of the box". The design is part of their Pre-Fall 2019 collection, which features more denim designs as well.
The couple seems to have a love-hate relationship with living in Ukraine, and hope their experimental designs can put Ukraine on the map in the fashion world. There is a movement to grow the Ukrainian fashion industry.
XO, Krista 💋
