The 91st Academy Awards

The 2019 Oscars, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, honored the best films of 2018. It took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California on February 24, 2019. It was the first ceremony in three decades, since 1989, to be conducted with no host.

Hannah Beachler made history as the first African American to not only be ever to be nominated, but also to take home a trophy in the "production design" category for her work on Black Panther. She has already taken home an Art Directors Guild Award and a Critics Choice Award for her work on the film. She was nominated and shared the win with set decorator Jay R. Hart. Hannah said "my thought is I have to harness this moment and turn it into more. I can't just let it slip away and become a big nothing after."

Hannah Beachler came up with a visual history and guidebook for Wakanda — what she calls a bible for the movie. "To get to the design, I had to come up with stories about why this would particularly be there," she says. "Was it always there, and where did it come [from] — did it move? So that's where we started." The Black Panther bible — 515 pages long — included not just the designs, but the histories for Wakanda's buildings, its epic waterfalls, and its technology.

Hannah Beachler wore gold "Wakanda" inspired jewelry on her face.

The film Bohemian Rhapsody led the ceremony with four awards, including best actor for Rami Malek's portrayal of Queen's lead singer Freddie Mercury.

Good friends don't let you do stupid things... alone.

“Good evening and welcome to the one millionth Academy Awards,” Tina Fey began. “We are not your hosts, but we are going to stand here a little too long so that the people who get USA Today tomorrow will think that we hosted.”

Besties have some fun and laughs: Maya Rudolph, Tina-Fey, and Amy-Poehler spend time on stage "pretending to host" the hostless 2019 Grammys.
